Slow disk read, slow disk eject.

Hey, everytime I pop in a game or any other disc media into my Playstation 3 it loads into my PS3 console relatively slow, the disk reads fine and then when I change disks and push eject 9 times out of 10 I have to hit the top of my console to get the disk to come out. The disk always comes out, just rather slow and I would like to know if anyone has a solution to my problem, I also have 250gb Slim model, not the newer ones but the ones with the actual buttons in the front, Thanks

Your disk drive is either dirty and full of dust / hair, or is failing. Since you said you must hit the top of the console in order for it to come out, and since its taking so long to intake discs, I am going to assume that it is just insanely dirty.

PlayStation 3 Slim Blu-ray Disc Drive Replacement

This guide should help you get TO the drive, once you get there, open it up and take a look around. DO NOT TOUCH THE LAZER. Once you have it opened and have looked around tell me what you see;

If you see a lot of dust and grime and hair, CAREFULLY clean it out. Used canned air / qtips w/ rubbing alch (90% at least) and ensure that you do NOT TOUCH THE LAZER

If you see not really any dust, look closely at the plastic gears near the front on the top inside the drive. Look for any broken cogs, or breaking cogs.

Lastly, if you cannot tell what you should or shouldn't be looking for, take some pictures. Help us help you. In the end a disc drive replacement is not that spendy and it is fairly easy to install.

For some reason.. I can't completely get the top cover off....Like it's halfway off right now but the front end is completely attached and I don't neccesarily know what to do from here

I just realized, I don't have that star screwdriver to take off the bottom screws so I don't know what else I am going to do.

The most you can do without that is to try to find a flathead that COULD fit, but I recommend the right tools for the right job. That being said your best option right now is to hose it down with canned air, get all that gunk out. And if that doesn't work its time to find a star driver lol.
