How Do I Do A Hard Drive Swap-Out

Apple tells me that my logic board has gone out and that I need a new one. They want to charge me $450 bucks to replace it. They logic boards only cost $150, but a refurbished unit is only $200. Couldn't I just buy a refurbished unit and switch out the hard drives?
