Platter swap on hard drive

I have a Seagate hard drive 1T the drive froze up and won't spin, is it possible to take the platter out of the nonworking drive and put it Ina drive that works?

Would I loose any data off the platter?

You can try and find the hard drive circuit board and replace just that. Unless it was a mechanical failure on your drive, a new controller board may resurrect your drive. these can be difficult to find, but it's a possibility. Otherwise I agree with "Dan" if you have important data and need it, get it done through recovery data specialist. There is really no way for you to swap platters.

Do you have a ISO-6 (Clean room standards) or better clean room? Most of us don't.

Then you need very special equipment to move the heads off and then back onto the platter.

Heres a David Pogue vid on what happens at a recovery service HELP! My HD drive died! Note the full cover white suits the techs are wearing at the benches. Thats what you need to wear.

Bottom line here if the data is that important get it to a recovery service to salvage what they can.
