Startup to flashing folder, unable to boot into OS X Install DVD?

My mac suddenly starts up to a flashing question mark folder. Resetted PRAM and SMC. Doesn't work. Everytime I try booting into the original OS X install dvd by pressing "c", the mac chime rings in a distorted way and repeats itself over and over again (seems like it hanged).

Try disconnecting the hard drive and see if it will then boot from the DVD. Let us know your results.

I did that and it did boot into the cd. Tried rebuilding the hard disk's directory with diskwarrior through another computer and found out that the hard drive is badly corrupted! Thanks.

Hold OPTION not C, then choose the install disk from the icon on the screen.

Unfortunately, holding "option" led me to the same mac chime hang. Is there any other way to troubleshoot?
