Water damaged. What's wrong the iPhone?

I was charging my iPhone 4S and was put into a small cut of water for about 30 secs to 1 min (sad story). The backlight is not working. I let the iPhone's battery die and left the iPhone off for about a month (thinking it was ruined for good). After a month I decided to charge it and the screen turned on with the low (red) battery icon. After the iPhone turned on the backlight is not working any more. My question is, is the backlight ruined or not? When turning off and on, the apple icon comes on and a second after the backlight stops working again. What's wrong the iPhone?

Jesus, the first thing I strongly suggest is that you disassemble your iPhone. Use these guides to work on it. After you have it disassembled, clean all the parts with high grade isopropyl alcohol (90%+ would be perfect). You can follow this guide for the cleaning, it will work for your iPhone. After the cleaning replace the battery and re-evaluate for any damage. Your main issue will be further failure due to prolonged corrosion issue. The reasons for your backlight not working could be caused by a bad LCD, bad backlight coil or IC, Again start by following the above steps first. Hope this helps, good luck.
