Coffee Spill--Powers up and chimes--no lcd or external monitor

Hello all,

First off I wanted to give props to this amazing site. It has literally saved me hundreds of dollars.

I had a coffee spill in the top left of the keyboard and there was not that much but enough to cause a problem. Took off the top case and cleaned/dried everything.

Machine does power up fine and chimes as per startup but nothing is showing on the lcd and external monitor is not recognizing either? Any ideas?

Please just don't tell me that my logic board is dead!

Thanks

When you took apart the computer did you make sure you kept the board safe from static charge? You say that you cleaned and dried everything. How did you clean it and how did you dry it? Often the best way to take care of a machine that has had fluid spilled on it is to turn it keyboard down and pull the battery and power supply and let it sit a day or two. When pulling apart the computer there is always a chance that you may have zapped the circuit that controls the video. If it still has not been a day or so since the spill, unplug the computer and power and just let it sit in the sun light for a day and dry out. If it has been a few days and it still doesn't show video then it looks like you may be looking for a replacement logic board.

The board looks to run about $345 replaced at a company such as DT&T services out of California. I did not see the board here at iFixit.com.

Good luck
