developed a ring of wash out around the edges

Sorry no one has answered your post helpfully, unless the brightness actually helped. I just replaced the screen display assembly on my iPhone 4s and it worked great the first time it turned on and then developed a ring of wash out around the edges of the display, with it being the worst in the corners.

I too am not sure if it is a faulty display unit or something I did. If anybody has any tips that would be awesome. Thanks.

you have overtightened the display screws (the big ones with the washers on) just loosen them off a bit and see if that helps.
