Can I leave the keyboard/keypad disconnected to use only external?

I spilt something in my MacBook 4,1 ages ago and now most keys don't work, but the arrow keys + others keep hitting themselves so I have a new wireless mouse and keyboard which I want to use instead.

I just opened up at the machine and disconnected the (zif?) keypad/keyboard ribbon. Now it's all back together the machine won't turn on.... Help? Is this ribbon also related to the power source? How?

Help ASAP much appreciated!!!!!

Ok, so I now realize that the power 'button' is just like a key on the keyboard and therefore the zif connector must be connected to turn the machine on. My machine turns on again now. Does anyone know if it is possible to detach the keyboard while still using the power button..?

Why detach the keyboard? Just plug in your USB keyboard and mouse.

It's wireless, the keyboard I'm using and doesn't override the existing keys pressing themselves. ..

Get a wired keyboard or replace the top case.
