Water damaged iPhone 4

I recently dropped my I phone 4 down the toilet and have dried it all out for over a week in the old trusty rice.

When not connected to a mains charger or a PC it will not turn on at all but when plugged in I get the apple loge followed by the plug in to iTunes logo, this to me seemed to be a battery fault ?

I've just replaced the battery and it is still doing exactly the same thing ?

I've also noticed one of the water sensors is pink inside the phone but the one in the dock end is fine.. Pls pls help !!!!!!!

Rich johnson, "the old trusty rice" is great for a first aid and for Gallo pinto :-), but it will not fix your phone. Rice does not prevent corrosion. the very first thing to do is to disassemble your phone. Use this guide. Once you have it disassembled clean it with +90% isopropyl alcohol. Do not substitute this with other cleaners :-) Use this guide to see how to clean the phone. It was written for a 3G but all the steps are pertinent to your phone as well. Check for any missing or charred looking components. Once you have it cleaned, replace the battery (which you already did) and reassemble your phone. Reevaluate for any damage. The next thing would be to take a look at replacing the dock connector. Hope this helps, good luck.

Ok done all of that and still only powering up when plugged in, you mentioned the dock connector which I am considering ordering today, what else could it be that not giving me any power to the battery ???

Thanks for your help mr Turkey :-)

Could be caused by a shorted component, missing component, bad PMIC, bad coil. Those are tough ones. How confident are you with a multimeter, schematics and soldering?

by

Going to test both my old and new battery with a multimeter, schematics and soldering not so good.

Going to give the dock connector a go I think if no luck it's time to call in a genius. Don't suppose there is a way I can find out if it is the dock before I spend out is there ?

by

not really, unless you have the proper multimeter and the schematics to see what it supposed to happen when you plug it in :-) It's a bit of a crapshoot.

Here we go again, right so I changed the dock connector and battery and da da dah all worked great after I restored it UNTILL I went to take a call I realised no one can hear me. Does this mean iv done something wrong when I installed the dock connector ? It came with a mic bit that I put the little rubber bit back on
