Display not working, even after buying a replacement.

As far as I can tell, the machine works just fine. When I boot it up, I can hear the fans start, and the start up sound plays every time, but the display stays off/black. The first three LEDs on the logic board light up.

About a month ago, I went into an Apple store, and they told me it was the display, and that it would run for about $400 to replace, so I checked, and I found a display for 1/4 of that elsewhere. After buying that, and reconnecting it, same problem.

There are several possible "fixes" first ensure that reassembly went 100% according to the Guide. Many problems are traced back to connectors that were not connecting... ribbon cables not inserted far enough, wrong side up, cams not locked down, box connectors that were not evenly and completely seated.

Other possibilities: LED #4 lights to indicate that the computer and the LCD display panel are communicating, since your's doesn't light that could be an inverter or nicked/cut cable issue.

I double checked that it was the right part (M201EW02), and after a large looking over, the only issue I found was that the temperature sensor for the LCD display had a nicked wire. I also noticed that there was no HDD temperature monitor. Besides these two things, nothing else seemed wrong.

All this aside, it may be the inverter, but when I took it out, it didn't smell/look off to me.

first off you need to make sure you have the correct replacement part.

Then check to see if ifixit.com has a teardown guide on that model.

check ifix it 's answer section for tips on reinstallition of that part for that model. I have a iPhone that when you order some parts for it, the white colored phones have different parts than the black phones even though they are the exact same phone by name. also google your orginal symtoms see what is on the web about that problem.

but it sounds like you may need someone with a couple of installs under their belt to help you with this one. i only answered to maybe help you do one or two things you may not have thought of while you are waiting for a experienced tech to reply to your question. also, look very very closly at the old screen beside the new one see if the parts match up to be an exact copy? and check for a connector you may have forgotten you unplugged when you took it out.
