I can't get It to power on, completely dead.
I am on my second power cord but have never replaced the actual battery...could this be the problem?
If so, could I replace it myself?

Yes - or myriad other issues depending upon symptoms before the power on failure (e.g. maybe you shorted out the magsafe connector/dc-in board).
