Hi I have an iMac G5 model A1173 and I found your post because I need to replace my hard drive. Powerful guide thanks the imac is now open and awaiting the new one...my question is:

Can I buy any kind of hard drive (i mean still 7200 rpm sata) or it has to be a specific replacement for the old one (mac compatible)?

Options

The newer drives have a faster transfer rate. Your drive may need to be jumpered down to 1.5 Gb/s for Disk Utilities to see it and format it.
