What do I have to do to repair my Satellite P775 optical drive?

This is a beastly Toshiba Satellite P775, and I have looked all over the net to find an explanation as to why my OD will not work. It is a blu ray drive, but I have found that may have had the same problem while theirs were not BR--none of them were resolved. It started about 6 months after I bought the laptop (I should have gotten it replaced then) but I disregarded it at the time. My drive has not been hit, I have checked all the drivers, I have checked for any software that might interfere with it properly functioning, but often (over 95% of the time) my OD acts as if there is no power to it. This is not a problem with toshiba's "power saving mode" either--regardless of whether the drive is turned on or off in the power saver, my drive is completely undetected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your machine should still be under warranty. I would have them replace it for free. Barring that, consider going to an external BluRay as it is much cheaper, more durable and will move to your next machine or other machines. Here's three of them: http://www.lacie.com/us/products/range.h...
