No video or audio when powered on

Hello Everyone, I recently found a DC at my local swap meet last month and got it for nothing because I know the person and helped them clean up a bit.

The problem was that it was drizzling that day and the DC got a bit wet. I tried my best to dry it off and I didn't turn it on. I didn't have any video cables to test it out so I bought some on ebay and just got them this week. I hooked them up, put in an almost new copy of crazy taxi and started it up.

The problem was that I wasn't getting any video or audio from the DC when I turned it on, only a black screen, it would spin up a little the game and then stop all together. I tried it again without the game and the DC would make a really loud grinding sound, like it was trying to read a CD but I still wouldn't get any video except a black screen and no audio.

could it be the video cables or the dreamcast it self

any help on fixing this would be great, thanks

P.S. no I haven't opened the dreamcast and don't know if it ever was opened before.

does the orange power light come on? You said that the CD makes a noise but nothing happens, I think it may be time to take it apart and to take a look at it. Use these guides to work on it. First I would suggest a good cleaning and check for obvious damage, make sure that your connectors are properly seated and that you do not have any corrosion issue. It could also be that there is a problem with the internal Dreamcast power supply. Double check your cables and connections as well. Let us know what you find so we can continue to help you.
