Disk partition failed with errors

Hi, I installed a new seagate barracuda 500Gb and the computer does not recognize it. I go to disk utilities and I see it but if I try to partition/erase it says ..failed with errors. input/output errors. PLEASE HELP

If there are jumpers on the drive remove them and try again. You might be running a SATA II or III connector on a SATA I machine. There have been many reports of problems with "backward compatibility" on some of the new SATA III drives.

No jumpers, I think you're right about the SATA III backwards compatibility issues..I even partitioned it using an Imac with 10.6.8 and when I put the hardrive back it showed up as disk01 unmounted.

Do not know what else to do

Contact the vendor and see if you can return/exchange it for a compatible drive.
