it wont read the hard drive after I droped it

i dropped my laptop the other day, and now it turns on but it wont read the hard drive . i already took it out and back in but nothing happened,, i want to know what could be the problem if i broke part of the motherboard

Alberto Diaz, change your boot up sequence to make your optical drive the boot drive. Use a LIVE Cd i.e Linux to boot from. see if you can access your drive with that. You also want to make sure that your drive is being recognized by your computer at POST. Check your BIOS on boot up and see if your Hard drive shows up.

Hard drives are mechanical in nature. Think of it as an enclosed record player. A significant impact could definitely cause the drive to become unreadable. Try to boot your machine from an alternate source (i.e. an external drive). I suspect it's the drive before the machine.

but i tried inserting a different drive in there bcuz i had and old one that i replaced due to small small memmory, but it was working fine when i took it out
