Laptop housing disassembly screw problem. NOT a stripped screw!

When disassembling the Sony Vaio-VGN NW21SF I run into a problem with one of the screws securing the cover. The screw head is in perfect condition so my screwdriver fits perfectly.

However, when turning the screw either fastening or loosening the screw, I feel no 'grip' in the screw what so ever. I can turn it either way indefinitely, with no result. The screw will not fasten or loosen itself and so will not come out.

So is there a trick for removing the screw without the need of damaging anything? Since I still have to put the laptop together afterwards, that's important!.

Sounds like that wherever it screwed into has either broken off or is no longer making contact with wherever it was fastened. If all the other screws are loose, you may try to pull it apart anyway. If that does not work, you could use a small Dremel like tool and remove the screw head.
