Why does my 13" MacBook Pro freeze temporarily?

it freezes often & for only about 30-45 seconds, then releases & is fine. it froze after i typed the first "i" in this description than what ever i typed after that, appeared in about 30 sec--this is just one example--sometimes i get the spinning wheel & sometimes i don't.

Could be the first sign of a failing hard drive.

I had this same problem. I shouldn't say 'had' because I still do.

I tried new RAM and a new HARD DRIVE (Switched to a 256 GB SSD) and, if anything, it has gotten worse. Now it locks up for 10-20 minutes, I end up just force powering it down and booting up again (SSD makes this a lot less painful than a standard drive).

I've read somewhere that it could be a faulty hard drive cable...I may try that next.

It's very common for the hard drive cable to go bad on those. I would start there. Much cheaper than a hard drive.

I think it may actually be the battery being old and expanding a bit causing unwanted pressure on the computer which causes issues.

I switched battery on mine and it seemed to solve it.
