Parts of Screen Not Responding to Touch

the Ipod is a 3rd Generation 32Gig and I have been the only owner. Yes, this Ipod has taken a bit of abuse so I can understand if it's time has come to be trashed, but I would really like to fix it and continue to use it if possible.

The Ipod fell out of a pocket in my jeans when I was lifting them up and it fell maybe 2-3 feet to the ground (hard wood floor) and landed on it's back. I immedietly turned it on to see if anything was wrong and it worked fine until I turned it off. Now I when I try to use it, parts of the screen don't work but others do. The slide to unlock bar works most of the time but only some of the numbers in the passcode number pad work. The numbers that always work are 8, 1, and 3, the ones that work most of the time are 2, 4, 7, and 9, and the ones that never work are 0, 5, 6 and the back or cancel in the corner.

If I double click the home button to play music the stuff at the top of the screen works fine. With this I'm assuming that the top of my screen works fine, it's just the bottom half that has problems. I don't have any experience taking Ipods apart and this one has never had any repair work done to it in the 4 years that I have had it.

Any Help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Alex

Alec, it is my experience that if part of the touch screen does not work, it is time to replace it. Most likely part of the internal digitizer circuit has failed. Here is the guide for it. The part is available right here and here as well. Hope this helps, good luck.
