Display backlight stays ON, even when MacBook is OFF

I recently replaced the left I/O board on my MacbookPro (A1260).

When the computer is on, the display works normally.

However when the computer is shut down or in sleep mode (display is off) the backlight stays ON.

Right now I have a blinding white display when the computer is off, so I've pulled out the battery and disconnected the power cable...

I'm not sure if this is due to a faulty left I/O board, another piece of hardware, or some software issue.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Ben.

Was this happening before the board was replaced? Why was the board replaced?

Originally I replaced a cracked lcd screen, but in doing so broke the inverter connection on the left I/O board.

I could see the screen was working under direct light, there just wasn't any backlight, so I replaced the left I/O board.
