How do I mate a dvd drive to my xbox 360

i changed out my dvd drive in my xbox and put a different dvd drive in because my orginal dvd drive wasnt working it was freezing and would play any games i changed the laser but i still have the same problem. so how to i mate a diff dvd drive so my xbox will recognize it

kel, you will need some software and a computer and a lot of instructions on what to do. Check on here for some very good instructions and links.

You need the board off you old one and stick it in the new one. That haves the chip that mates it to the motherboard.

yu don't need to do this...just find 2 screws near the ribon cable wear the laser is located. screw right (few times) try game repeat until it works

kevin, the pot adjustment only works if you have the original drive. "changed out my dvd drive in my xbox and put a different dvd drive in" in this case the drive was already changed. If the pot adjustment is not done properly , you can either destroy the laser by allowing to much power to burn it, or leave your drive unusable by changing the voltages... It is not as easy as just turning the pots....

you just need to turn the cd screw all the way down

ah, nope. If you want your xBox optical drive to last a while, you actually have to adjust it with the assistance of a meter. If you screw with the pots to much you are running the risk of burning out your laser and leaving the drive absolutely useless.
