replacing 500Go with 2To

Hi all, I'm new here and I have read the guide to replace the original HDD 500Go to a new Hard drive bigger.

I have thus bought a 2To Western Digital Green , removed all the screw and replaced the original by the new hard drives.

The Time capsule power up, but stay orange. I could not get the Wifi signal up.

I let it into the box for 5/10' but as it remain orange with no wifi I was afraid that I broke it.

I then put back the original hard drive into the TC. And it worked.

What could have I done wrong ? Should that TC need reinitialize ? I pressed the little button on the rear, it start flashing but it did not help.

Thanks for help !

PS : I must precise that the HDD was never used before and has no partition/not formatted, I don't know if it has any influence.

I have powered the time capsule without the hard drive and the wifi show up. Would it be possible that the issue is with the hard drive? When I use the reinitialize function via airport utility it erase all the settings but even after the connection of the drive it does not start :(

Well this was a 2nd gen Time Capsule, and it worked finally, I move the HDD Back to the shop, they tested it and it was dead, they provided me with a new one and it worked.

Thanks all for your help !

thanks for your answer, but this is what I have done, the HDD is a Western Digital Green 2To SATA 64Mo Cache / WD20EZRX. Are you aware of any 'incompatibility' with this one ?

I am not aware of any.

Are you absolutely sure that the wifi isn't up? You have done exactly what I did with a WDC Green HDD of the same specs. The light showed orange until I connected to the Time Capsule via Airport Utility and formatted the drive. If you can't connect via wifi, try doing this via an ethernet cable.

By the way, 99.9% of English speakers won't know what a 500Go or a 2To is - you might use the acronyms GB and TB instead!

yes I'm sure and moreover the LAN cable is not working as well, like if everything shut down when that hard drive is in the capsule. I disconnect it. All back, even if the hard drive is not connected. Weird isn't it ? I guess this is an incompatibility or a not dealt with drive due to model/revision/firmware ... I have nothing else to try, so I could not even check if this is not the HDD itself which is dead.

I just realized you said 500Go, which means it's older than my upgraded time capsule - which model is your time capsule? The oldest MB276LL/A and MB277LL/A time capsules from 2008 don't support the WDC "advanced format". See the thread at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.p...
