Sounds like one of two things...either the interior handle broke, or you have the child security latch engaged.

When you have the rear door open, just below the door latch is the child security latch. If the selector is towards the interior of the door, it is engaged, if it is towards the exterior of the door, it is disengaged. When it is engaged, the interior door handle will not open that door.

If the child security latch is disengaged, and you still cannot open the door from the inside, it is probably a broken door handle. The handle attaches to a rod that attaches to the latch...when you pull the handle, it pivots and pulls the rod, which unlatches the door. The plastic part that anchors the pivot point broke on my Tahoe, and I could no longer open that door from the inside. Replace the interior door latch, problem was solved.
