Can you change the ram without removing the logic board

I read some comments on macrumors and one person said that he change his ram by only removing the fan.

Then he just reached under the logic board to change the ram. By the pictures of the inside of the imac it looks possible.

Is it possible?

You can see the lower RAM chip in this image I would think that unlatching, and re-latching the locks, as well as finagling the upper chip (which apparently will not be completely uncovered in your method) out and back into place around the speaker could be difficult.

There's a safe way, and your proposed way. IMnsHO it would be wiser, to take the extra steps to do this job the "long way" rather than risk damaging parts searching for a "shortcut".

Take pictures if you do this, make good notes, and if successful you can submit a guide for it.

Thank you for your wise words.

I myself think that it is possible but your right, its not worth damaging my iMac.

I think that I will just change the hdd for a ssd and leave the 8 gigs of ram which will be enough for the next 4 years.and then I will buy a new mac
