Little heat below 20F on 2002-2008 BMW 5-Series?

I have a 2007 530XI and below 20F the car has trouble heating up. I have changed out the thermostat and still have the same problem. Any suggestions?

John, that sounds absolutely right. there is nothing wrong with that. It proves the efficiency of your Bimmers cooling system. I do understand that it does get chilly on the inside if it does not heat up properly, especially if you add the windchill while driving :-). Check with your local BMW dealer, there used to be kidney grill flaps that one could get installed to decrease the amount of cooling air through the radiator. A lot fancier than the cardboard box in front of the radiator:-)

You could also have a plugged heater core. Sludge builds up and over time clogs the core so its not as efficient or worse fully blocks it. A good reason to flush & refresh your coolant.

Thank you Dan. I don't think it is the heater core either. The water temperature drops in the engine when it gets this cold as well. I guess I will use the card board.
