screen works 1/2 the time

the screen works fine for a hour or so and then it goes black but then you turn it on the next day it comes back up again. do i need to replace the screen or something else.

Sounds like it is overheating. If so it will automatically shut down to prevent damage. I would open it up and clean the fan and blow it out. If further cooling is needed you may need to replace the thermal paste. Please give us the last three figures of you serial number and we can get you to the correct guides.

This can be caused by a faulty inverter (supplies power for backlight) . If you shine an obtuse light source at the screen when it is dark and see what would be displayed then there is a backlight or inverter problem. If there is no display visible , then it is most possibly the switch which turns the display off when you close the lid.

I forgot to say that a defective fan assembly will also cause the macbook to shut down. Check to see that air is coming out the rear at both left and right sides.
