Hard drive height limitations

Hello,

I want to upgrade my hard drive in my MacBook white unibody (late 2009).

Are 12.5mm laptop hard drives compatible with my MacBook? Or it has to be 9.5mm?

Thanks!

Answer this question I have this problem too

9.5mm, the unibody is a thin computer, so the hard drive has to be thin, you can check under the battery cover. It has to be 2.5" wide as well

Okay, thanks. 1 more question. How do I know that the hard drive is 9.5mm and not 12.5mm?

Before you buy it, look at the spec's or ask the vendor.

If you have it in front of you, measure it - 12.5mm=1/2", 10mm=1/10"less ....

Most listings will specify whether a drive is 9.5mm or 12.5mm. For example, the listing here at ifixit for a 640 GB 5400 RPM WD SATA hard drive specifies 2.5 inches and 9.5mm under "Dimensions": [linked product missing or disabled: IF107-086]
