will a SATA III- 6 Gb/s HHD work with my old iMac?

I have a WD1002FAEX SATA 3 HHD from a crash PC. Is it compatible with my old iMac EMC 2118? The data transfer rate default is 6 Gb/s. Do I have to reduce it to 3 Gb / s with the jumper settings to work?

Model iMac 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo

Thanks

Yes, you will most likely have to set the jumpers down. You will know as soon as you try to format it with Disk Utilities.

Thanks for your help. In the end I installed a WD Caviar Green 2TB (WD 20 EARX). I lowered the rate to 3 Gb / s with a jumper and the computer has recognized the hard drive perfectly. ¡¡Fantastic!!, has gained greatly in speed.

Before I cloned the hard drive in an external box with Carbon Copy Cloner.

Thanks to iFixit tutorial installation was possible without difficulty.
