Did I fubar my motherboard by hacking my MagSafe?

My MagSafe power supply went out and I tried to save a buck by cutting off the magnetic end that plugs into the computer. Then I took a universal power supply stripped the wires and tied them to the stripped end. I may have also reversed the polarity by mistake. I heard a little tiny pop and pulled it off quickly. I then went later and purchased a new 45 watt MagSafe power supply but it wont power on. Are there any parts that I can replace or troubleshooting that I can do or did I just fubar the motherboard? The universal power supply has a variable voltage that is supposed to automatically adjust. I did pull off the cover and test after the dc in board to where it plugs into the logic board with the new MagSafe supply and it had good voltage at that point.

Answer this question I have this problem too

If you have voltage at the output of the DC-In board, your logic board is toast IMO.

Before buying a new logic board, buy and install a new DC-In board and see if that fixes your problem. I don't have a schematic of the DC-In board, but it may have reverse polarity and/or overvoltage protection (doubtful). I guess you learned your lesson for the day about polarity ;).

Here's the guide:

Your auto-ranging power supply may have some lag time, so it might have applied too much voltage for a millisecond or two -- more than enough time to fry power control circuitry.

Disregarding the little pop. Try to put power supply once more and wait for at least 5 minutes. Charger may not power on your motherboard, because your battery might be at critical level, after that you might have a working laptop or came to the logical conclusions.
