Fix it for robot vacuum RPS error?
Hi guys and gals! (Hello Cousin T.A.!!)
Can someone please look at a Neato XV-11 and figure out a way to fix the RPS (Room Positioning System) error that everyone dreads (Google it...)
The vacuums only have a 1 year warranty, and many people ended up with the RPS error within the warranty period, alas, I did not. I tried all the "fix it" suggestions on blogs across the net, including blowing out the sensors with compressed air and what not.
I ended up having to make an "out-of-warranty" purchase. Which is still less expensive than buying a new vacuum at this point. We shall see when it arrives!
Is this a good question?

Just out of curiousity, have you tried to run your Neato in the dark? This could be a weak laser issue. Did you check to see if the laser is still rotating? It has to run at a certain speed to transmit usable data. To slow, and Neato gets lost :)

Hello oldturkey03! That was one thing I didn't try.. the vacuum is too noisy to run at night while everyone is sleeping! XP I believe the turret was still spinning, although I can't remember what speed it was going.. In any case, this robot ran perfectly for over a year, and then of course, out of warranty it goes kaput... a weak laser is unacceptable!
p.s. I was just informed via email that my replacement robot has been delayed. They are on back-order! What a surprise.

What is an out of warranty purchase

Up until recently, all the replacement parts could be ordered from robotshop.com, perhaps they can be found on Ebay. Also, Neato seems to have discontinued their repair contract with Extron.
