Why doesnt my iPod turn on?

My friend gave me his ipod to add music, so first the screen froze and he fixed it but he told me to drain the battery so it if can work properly when i charged it so now. I just got home and charged it from an outlet for 30 minutes at the beginning of the charging it had the symbol that the battery is dead. Then i left it alone thinking it was charging but then when i came to check it and it didnt even turn on at all. I held on to the lock and even the home button but still nothing and now im trying to connect it to the computer but nothing, it doesn't even sense the device. helpp!!

Brian, couple of things you want to try and do. first, use a different cable. Second, make sure your dock connector is free of debris, corrosion, and that it does not have any broken or bend pins. After that, you may have to consider replacing the battery. It may be past its lifespan and no longer holding a charge. Here is the guide for it. Of course you also want to try a reboot by holding power and home button (at same time ) for hard reset. Hope this helps, good luck.
