In the past two days, I've tried to access iphoto, and I just cant open it. Almost right after this, my MacBook has shut down abruptly. I have to restart it again in a few minutes and it behaves just fine, but still no iphoto...help, thank you.

Does this only happen when you try to use iphoto? If so you may have a corrupt file in that program. If you have the disk for iphoto save your photos and delete/reinstall iphoto. If it affects more than one program boot from your system disk and run disk repair until it reports no trouble found. Ralph

Check for updates, and repair the permission using Disk Utility..
