Fixing an iPod Video 30G had me down

I was given a previously used IPod Video 30G that I would like to restore; it’s in need of repair.

I do not have the password for this device so it's not recognized on my ITunes.

It has a ‘sad face’ when rebooted. After researching your web site and id some possible fixes: new hard drive and or logic board. Where do I start? How do I sync this IPod to my ITunes account?

Shelly Morgan, the first thing you want to do is to repalce the hard drive as well as the hard drive cable. That is the most common error with this model. The other thing I suggest is that you replace the battery. Once it's open it is just easier. After you change the drive, cable, and battery, the iPod should be found as an iPod that needs to be restored under iTunes. Use these guides to work on your iPod. Hope this helps, good luck
