No touch response after replacing glass and two digitizers. What else?

Should I try a more expensive replacement part? i.e. ifixit replacement?

Here's the story: I had cracked glass. Everything worked normal.

I ordered glass replacement from a reseller on Amazon. This was my first iPod Touch repair. I damaged the digitizer/glass frame trying to remove front panel.

So I ordered new digitizer from another reseller on Amazon. I ordered two because I planned to also replace glass on my daughter's iPod Touch.

After installing new digitizer and glass (and reusing my original home button) the iPod would power up but the screen wouldn't respond to any touch.

I took it apart again to double-check all connections. I noticed a tear in the digitizer ribbon. So I installed the second digitizer. Still no response after power up.

I took it apart again and went deeper removing the LCD and looking for other damage. I could see none.

Put it all back together taking great pains to ensure digitizer ribbon was carefully positioned and connected tightly.

Same results.

I'm thinking of trying a better product. The iFixit looks promising and a more complete integrated replacement than what I've tried so far. (Not piece-mealed together and having to reuse my home button because it didn't come with panel.)

OR... did I mess up something else? What else do I look for? Point me in the specific direction.

Or do you think I'll get better results with the iFixIt components. Plus, if it turns out not to be the solution I can return it. (minus restocking)
