Can I replace the electronics or print heads?

My R1900 printer has stopped working due to the electronics that read the ink cartridges (to determine if they are genuine or not). I was told the electronic board needs to be replaced, but the cost is more than the printer is worth. I'd like to try it myself.

I was also told the print heads would most likely need to be replaced after the board is replaced.
