Connecting 3.5" HDD to Internal SATA Port

Hi,

Bit of a weird question, but I am hoping to connect a 3.5" Drive to the internal bay on a Mac Mini (Either 2011 or 2012 model).

I understand I can get my way in to the SATA port, however I don't think I can power it through the Mac Mini's PSU? Will I have to have a separate AC Connection for this?

Thanks!

The Mini can't support a 3.5" drive only a laptop 2.5" drive

Yeah I know it (obviously) won't go on the inside, I was hoping to have the Mini encased in an enclosure that could also hold a 3.5" drive (Or two).

Thanks

Best to get an external HD Thunderbolt case to hold your extra drives.
