A1278 Logic Board Issue

Hi there,

First post asking for help on here.

I recently got hold of a Macbook Pro which has spill damage. I've stripped it down, replaced the keyboard and removed all the corrosion with alcohol, although there wasn't much. I took the logic board out of my current working model and the system works fine so I know this problem is solely relating to the logic board. Basically, when I connect the battery up it will automatically power up, I'll hear the welcome chime and the screen comes on then it just cuts out. The same will happen if I connect the magsafe adaptor, but if both are connected nothing happens. The charging light on the magsafe functions as it should when both are connected. I've given the logic board a wash down with alcohol but there has been no change.

Anyone have any ideas what might cause the problem and if it's salvageable?

Thanks

Some of what that was spilled may have crept under some of the components as well as damaged the contacts which you can't see in the connectors.

You could try re-flowing some of the solder joints that don't look to healthy. Mind you limit your self to the stuff you can easily do (don't try re-doing the SMT or other small contacts as your more likely to make a short). You really need to have good soldering skills here.
