Screen illumination acting weird.

Hello,

the screen illumination on my MacBook is not working.

What happens: the screen is black, as if it's not working at all.

But if I decrease the light intensity (with the dedicated keys on the keypad) until 0/16 (equals to shut down the screen), then increase to 1/16, the screen goes back to life for a few seconds, then goes off again. This procedure works repeatedly, so I guess the LCD screen is still working.

I have done a lot of research on the site before asking, and narrowed the possible causes to:

- bad inverter cable

- bad inverter board

- fault on the logic board (rarer)

What do you suggest me to do?

I forgot to mention that pluggin an external monitor works perfectly, so I guess the video card has no problems.

Thanks in advance!

Giacomo

Hi there,

I brought my Macbook to an Apple care service center here in Italy.

They confirmed the problem could be the inverter and relative cable.

But the same day they called me and told that they replaced those parts but that didn't solve the problem, that there could be a problem on the screen or on the logic board.

But in fact I believe they did nothing, and they just want to sell me a new macbook. I had one missing screw which I specified them, and they neither did that!

What you suggest me to do?

Is there any way I can test if it's really a problem on the screen or on the logic board?

Thanks

Was it an Apple Store or an independent authorized service center? I'm surprised they tried to push you to a new system or didn't even look that hard at your problem.

It was an Apple Store.

I have doubts because I took the computer at about 1pm and at 7 pm they called me and told that they had the inverter replaced but that didn't solve anything. Very quick, isn't it? Then they could at least put the missing screw, but they didn't.
