Why isnt the Dual HardDrive Kit available for this model?

Hey,

I was wondering why the Late 2009 27" iMac doesn't support the Dual HardDrive Kit. I mean this one with an SSD AND the optical drive. So there is an hdd, ssd and the optical drive.

There is a Dual HardDrive Kit for the 2011 27" iMac but no for mine. Why is that?

Julian good question! I think the issue is no one has tried it so no one knows which optical bay housing to install. If your up to it give it a try.

I would first run system profiler to see what the optical drives I/O is (double checking what EveryMac.com lists it comes with). Then open the system and measure the size of the optical drive and double check by checking out the drives specs online. Order the correct bay from iFixIt and install your SSD.

Please let iFixIt sales know of your success or if you have any problems with the bay unit you used. Good Luck!

I guess you misunderstood. You mentioned the optical bay I have to buy. But installing an optical bay means replacing the optical drive with an ssd. But I don't want to replace but add an ssd. That means attaching an ssd under the optical drive and connecting it to the motherboard. The 2011 (I guess it's the 2011 27" iMac not 2010) can handle all three devices. So my question is: is my iMac able to do this as well?

Sorry no, your system only has two SATA ports you'll need to give up one device to add internally the SSD.
