Can I take out the SSD and install into external case?

I broke my MBA and its completely smashed. Luckily (I think) the SSD is still in good shape.

Any recommendation on the external case (brand) for the SSD? Also, I plan on buying the latest MBA. I assume this will not be compatible with the old SSD right?

So is there a way for me to boot from the external drive? I would like to restore my image as much as I can (in terms of settings).

Thanks in advance!

Here's one case you could use: OWC

To move your stuff over use Apples Migration assistant app.

Thanks. Does that mean it'll be in SATA speed (or based on the connector) ?

Sadly, no. The external connection speed is limited by the I/O used: USB1/2 slowest, Firewire400, USB3 (shared link), Firewire800, USB3 (dedicated), Thunderbolt being the fastest. You still have the limits of the device which may not be able to sustain the connections bandwidth.
