My macbook crashed, but it still powers on displaying a blinking file folder with a question mark in it. Apple store informed me that the hard drive crashed. Is there a way to retrieve my information from the hard drive?
Also since the macbook still powers on, can it be fixed? Apple store told me no.

Yes, a new hard drive will get your computer back in working order. As for trying to get some of your data off the old hard drive, you may have some luck mounting the hard drive in a hard drive mount. If you don't know what that means, there are probably some 3rd party mac repair shops in your area that can give it a try for a reasonable price. Best of luck.
