I just upgraded my HDD to 1TB using your guide(s). I noticed after installing the new drive I had a giant CPU spike. It fluctuates up and down quite a bit. does this have to do with the CPU locating files on a different drive or should I be worried about something else?

I suspect Spotlight is running. Depending on how many files you migrated it may take awhile. You can check what is running with Activity Monitor application in the utilities folder.
