Why won't my iPod touch turn on?

When my iPod touch is on the charger it will function normally. However when it is unplugged it will not turn on. Is the problem in the on/off switch or is the battery the problem?

It sounds like replacing the battery would solve your issue. The battery in the provided link is for the First Generation iPod Touch. Please verify that is the iPod you have before purchasing.
