How to recover files from hard disk?

I have a functioning hard disk from a G4 Power Mac. When I connect it to my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.8.2) via a Universal Drive Adapter it doesn't appear in Disk Utility or Finder. Anyone know how I can get the files off this disk? The disk has a jumper in the left-most (out of 4) positions. Do I need to move or remove that?

Which universal drive adapter do you have? Some older drives need more power to operate and need the power cable connected. If you drive adapter has an ATA data but not power connector then you may need to get a different one. If it just runs off a USB port and nothing else than you will likely need a new one that can supply power. What does your hard drive do when you plug it into your current adapter? Does it click, make noise, and/or vibrate? You might also have a hard drive issue. Get back to us.

Hope this Helps
