Backlight display still shutting off after replaced inverter cable?
I have a Macbook Model A1181 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo Processor that I purchased in 2008. I have been having problems with the backlight turning off after about ten minutes of use. I can set the brightness all the way down and then "catch" it on the way up, but it still shuts down again in a minute or so. I know it is the backlight because when I flash a light behind the apple I can still see a faint image of the screen. I have been using an external monitor which works fine.
I have replaced the inverter cable, but the problem was not resolved. I have done some research and have decided that the problem could also be with the inverter itself or the LCD display; however, before I spend more cash on parts I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. Thanks!
Is this a good question?

Your system has CFL's which do wear out. Did you see the display flicker before it went dark (a couple of days or so)? If you did it's likely the CFL's need replacing. If not the Inverter is more likely. The inverter cable issue is when the lid is moved the display goes out. I would start by replacing the inverter

Thanks for the quick response, Dan. I do not remember any flickering, but I may have just missed it. When you say CFL are you referring to the fluorescent lamps in the LCD Display?
Also, would worn down CFLs be completely dead? I can still get the backlight to function for the first minute or two when the screen is turned on, but it turns off unexpectedly. I will likely replace the inverter first, seeing that it is less expensive than the entire LCD display.
