Only booting in safe mode cant get AHT running

What still works is:

  • Mac Pro starts to boot
  • gives the chime
  • Apple logo,
  • spinning wheel
  • blue/gray screen
  • HDD seems to do some more but the screen stays blue/gray.

Thats it.

In save mode it does boot completely.

Please advice in which steps to take to find the cause of this problem.

Are there any tests i can run in safe mode?

Yes you could give the AHT a try:

tried to run AHT but that is not starting.

when i boot holding the D nothing happens !

I removed al HDD's

put i a blank HDD

Clean install of Snow Leopard.

This setup also only boots in save mode....

Is there any trick to start AHT ? Verbose mode maybe?

Where did you run AHT from the DVD or HD? You need to run it from the HD in safe mode.

I tried from dvd with the D pressed white booting.

how do i run it from HDD?
