Where to find Start up disk or Recovery Disk.

It seems my MAC OS is corrupted cause when the iBook start up it display a question mark "?" after the chime and apple logo. I tried to re-install or use the PowerBook G4 15" recovery disk but it wont continue... it freeze the system and display huge white horizontal line after chime and apple logo. i really need help.. thankss

The question mark means that your iBook can't find a system folder. Most likely a bad hard drive. When you tried the"recovery disk" did you start up holding the "C" key down? What is this Recovery Disk? To check the computer out, you can start it in Target Mode by connecting it to another Mac via firewire cable and start the iBook up holding the "T" key down. You can then try to run disk utilities on it.
