Teardown to color MacBook

Hi everyone!

I have a macbook mid-2010 model and now I was thinking about ring an extra touch! I've seen some reviews of people who disassembled an older macbook model so they could paint it (http://walyou.com/diy-color-macbook/ ). Is this possible with my macbook to? Can't find a complete tear down of the mid 2010 model so I'm asking you guys :-)

Thanks in advance!

I've heard (and seen) people doing all sorts of things to personalize their systems.

Painting is not the best way on the aluminum bodies as it has a tendency to chip unless you sand down the surfaces (which will ruin the systems value), using an epoxy paint (masking the areas).

I would recommend using the snap-on body skins or self-adhesive body wraps that are for sale as the best and won't hurt the systems value.

I did see a beautiful engraving done by a tattoo artist. A painter I know used markers to illustrate his cover and then place a clear cover over it to protect it.

Sure, if you really want something unique you could strip your system down and have the case anodized. But, its a lot of work and you may end up having to replace a few parts as they may not come off cleanly. I haven't heard of anyone going that far.

But mine isn't aluminum... It's a kind of polycarbonate which would be 'paintable' with this stuff :http://www.ritdye.com/store/colors/navy-...

It should be able with that stuff but I don't know if the macbook can be completely disassembled...

Click here for a guide on the lower part of the body tear down. Click here for the tear down of the upper half. Look through the solutions you should find how the keys are removed from and installed on the keyboard, if you want to go that far.

Opps - I had MacBook Pro on my mind. I forgot about the older MacBook which was polycarbonate. As the outer case parts can be removed dyeing them sounds like a great way (vs painting). Good Luck!
