After updating iPod, it will not connect to iTunes.

After my daughter hit and automatic update from Apple about 3 weeks ago it will no longer connect to iTunes. It is stuck on "connect to iTunes screen", I have tried to restore many times with the same results; iTunes cannot read xxxx iPod, go to summary tab and restore.

When trying to restore again same answer; cannot complete restore download corrupted. Any help would be appreciated.
