Is it possible to replace just the front glass?

My iPhone 5 flew to the asphalt on Saturday and the glass cracked across the bottom half of the screen. The Apple Store wants to change out the whole phone for $229.

Here's a Chinese vendor selling just the front glass for $16. Is there any hope of replacing the glass without damaging the display/touchscreen underneath?

Answer this question I have this problem too

No you cannot replace just one part of the display assembly. Just wait for 3rd parties to manufacturer full assemblies. Do NOT let Apple repair your iPhone.

How come the LCD costs so much for the iPhone 5. It is much lesser for the 4/4s and it's the same thing just a different size

It is possible however extremely difficult and not economical for single repair. Professional skills and equipment required.
